Union Memorial Hospital
Thank you for your interest in Union Memorial Hospital, member of MedStar Health System. In December 2008, Union Memorial Hospital outsourced the management of its use of supplemental agency personnel to the vendor management division of Nursefinders. CMS has partnered with UMH and Nursefinders to continue to provide uninterrupted staffing support for the hospital.
UMH staffing requests for nursing and allied health will be sent electronically to all subcontracted agencies at the same time. For CMS to respond immediately to secure shifts for our associates, we are requesting that our associates keep their availability current and up-to-date. You may call, fax, update in TSS, or email availability to CMS. We also request permission to automatically schedule associates at UMH based on current availability without calling associates first to verify due to the increased time sensitivity of shifts.
UMH is permitting associates to book shifts through one agency only. All associates will need to select one agency through which to work at UMH. We are confident that CMS is the most time responsive agency and our scheduling team will work diligently to secure shifts for our associates. As a result of our reputation and long-standing relationship with the hospital, we anticipate increased temporary staffing opportunities.
UMH is strict in the audit of nursing documentation. If a deficiency is found in your documentation, you will receive a "Request for Improvement" (RFI). Please be aware of the following policy regarding RFIs for agency personnel at UMH/MedStar:
- "RFI stands for Request for Improvement. An RFI is issued by MedStar facilities when either standards of care or patient care policy is not being followed. Specifically, Union Memorial Hospital has auditors on units reviewing charts daily looking to ensure all documentation is being completed. When any of the above mentioned items are not being followed, an RFI is issued."
- "You may have received an RFI in the past. Going forward, MedStar Health is issuing the following policy. If an agency clinician receives 3 RFI’s they will be made a DNR (Do not return). This Policy of 3 RFIs is MedStar system wide. Additionally, a DNR will count for all MedStar facilities system wide."
UMH has a strict Dress Code. The nursing staff uniform throughout Union Memorial Hospital must wear either all white or a white top with navy blue pants. Sweaters and nursing jackets should also be white. Any shirt other than scrub tops must have a collar. Shoes may be black, brown, navy blue or white in color.
A MedStar Health System ID Badge is required for all agency personnel. You will be issued a security form to complete during your on-site orientation at UMH. You may go to the UMH Security Office (located on the ground level of Parking Garage A) between 7:30A and 4:30P weekdays to have your photo taken and obtain your ID badge. You will not be permitted to work an assignment at UMH without a MedStar Health System ID badge displayed. See the documents regarding badge procedures below.
