Good Samaritan Hospital
Thank you for your interest in Good Samaritan Hospital, part of MedStar Health System. Please note the following information specific for agency personnel planning to work shifts in this community hospital.
Nursing Dress Code: Scrubs of any color may be worn in the in-patient units. ER only: Blue scrubs (navy or ceil blue) or white pants with coordinated scrub top may be worn. No t-shirts or sweat shirts are permitted - must be scrub attire. Scrub jackets over t-shirts are permitted. No scrubs with logos from any other hospitals may be worn.
Time Clocks: Agency nurses must clock-in and clock-out at Good Samaritan Hospital. Please “stamp” the top of your CMS time slip, using the time clocks at the hospital. Wall time clocks are available in two locations:
- 3rd floor outside the nursing office across from the elevators
- 1st (main) floor outside the ED down a short hall across from Radiology
At the end of your shift, please punch out and leave the original copy of the timeslip in the nursing office door on the 3rd floor. ED nurses may leave your time slip with the charge nurse.
Important Policies:
- Staff may not eat/drink in the clinical area. This is a major infection control violation and strictly enforced at Good Samaritan Hospital.
- Agency staff may not draw Blood Bank Specimens (Typenex) or Blood Cultures. You are not permitted to draw the specimen to type and screen a patient for blood even with a witness. Agency staff may not do finger sticks or test for hemoccult/gastroccult.
RN/LPN Orientation
- All nurses must review Orientation Chapters 1-10 – see Documents below.
- Print a hard copy of all pages of the Test Packet. Sign all forms and complete all tests in black ink. Once completed, please scan/email, fax or mail completed packet to CMS.
- ED Nurses Only
- Complete Chapters 11 and 12 – see Documents below.
- Complete Water Swallowing Screening Test in Chapter 12 – scan/email, fax or mail to CMS.
- Review PowerPoint presentation "Leveling of Care in the ED."
- Review ED Patient Charge Sheet
- Review ER Supplies Charge Sheet
- Complete Verification From after you have reviewed the ED patient charge procedures - fax, scan or mail to CMS
