2014: What a Year . . . What a Team
A year in review, and a milestone service target for CMS!
Despite the challenges & adversity that the changing healthcare scene has presented the industry, as well as losing a phenomenal coordinator mid-way through the year who we still miss and could never replace, our team rose to the challenge in 2014: working longer hours, typing more emails, and making more phone calls. We have expanded our service lines into new placement types like administrative, social worker, and pharmacy. Formal permanent and temporary-to-permanent placement options are now available. Our Home Care division continues to grow, and we have seen a resurgence in imaging and, to an extent, respiratory placements. The end result? Our year ended with a record week, in which more services were provided to the families, hospitals, and facilities in our community than ever before in company history. And so we say THANK YOU. Thank you to our incredible staff working in the office to coordinate so many placements and ensuring quality, every step of the way. Thank you to our equally incredible field staff, working long hours, extra shifts, through winter storms and more winter storms, whatever it took to make sure no patient was ever without the care he or she needed. And thank you to our families, hospitals, and facilities that choose CMS when there are so many alternatives available. To reach this landmark right at the end of the year sends us into 2015 with great momentum. We look forward to the year ahead, working alongside all of you to continue to deliver quality service whenever we are needed. Thank you, again, to everyone. Very happy holidays to all, from CMS.

Costa Rica, November 2014
Recap of the CMS staff trip to the rainforest!
30 CMS Staff & Clinicians, along with family and friends, traveled to Costa Rica in early November. The group stayed at the luxurious, ocean front hotel, the Riu Palace in Guanacaste. Everyone enjoyed the friendly Costa Rican people, the rain forests, the howler monkeys and gourmet food. We enjoyed wonderful days of tropical sun with just an occasional rain shower at night. Group excursions included a thrilling zip-line, volcano watching, ATV tours, horseback riding, snorkeling and sailing on a catamaran. Special thanks to our group members who made generous “wish-list” donations for local school children. We donated a generous amount of school supplies for a nearby elementary school. Chesapeake Home Care has integrated a new technology to provide higher accountability and transparency to track all the details of each interaction with your loved one. This new technology will assure access to compassionate and consistent care across the continuum.
Telephony and GPS Time Cards – these new features allow us to verify our caregivers' locations through GPS or Telephony tracking as they call in/log-in to ensure their timely arrival at our clients home as well as tracking all the days activities electronically.
The Family Portal feature allows our clients to view their upcoming schedule, to see which caregivers are scheduled, view past scheduled shifts, and communicate through the message board. Baltimore's 50 Women to Watch
features CMS' very own Toni Torsch!
The Baltimore Sun nominated 50 women to watch for 2014 - one of whom is CMS' Toni Torsch! From the editor of the story, Anne Tallent: “These are women who are very invested in Baltimore, and there is a lot of good being done out there,” she said. “Whether in advocacy or the arts or nonprofits or science and technology, they are making Baltimore a better place.” Tony's story is a compelling one. She has turned her grief of losing a young son to an accidental overdose into a commitment of sparing another mothers similar loss. She has created the Daniel Torsch Foundation whose mission is to provide drug overdose prevention and awareness. Toni has earned a reputation for influencing drug policy in Annapolis. She hopes to increase funding for drug treatment. Tickets are available at our office for the fall fundraiser/shrimp & bull roast to be held on November 21st to support the Daniel Torsch Foundation. Wikipedia: The Seven-Year Itch
The seven-year itch is a psychological term that suggests that happiness declines after around year seven of a relationship. Not true in the case of Diane Kowal who is celebrating her 7th year of service to CMS. We appreciate all of her hard work and dedication to CMS.
